Main Campus

(Phuthaditjhaba)

Location

The Campus is situated on the Phuthaditjhaba main throughfare, Mampoi Street alongside the College's corporate headquarters.

Establishment

Lere la Tshepe College of Education (established 1995) was changed into a Technical College in 1998. This development swelled the number of learners who enrolled for technical subjects (NATED) now on offer. There also arose a crying need for additional classroom space.

The Directorate: FET Colleges responded to the need by making available to the College all the facilities of the ex-Boitjhorisong In -Service Training Centre. This satellite (popularly known as Lere la Tshepe: Boitjhorisong Campus) grew from strength to strength and offered an ever-growing range of NATED programmes.

Upgrading

In 2004, during his reorganization of the College, the Principal, Dr SD Manese, upgraded the Boitjhorisong Satellite Campus to the level of a full campus, viz. (Maluti FET College) Main Campus.

At the time of being upgraded, the campus was already boasting of very impressive statistics.

Lere la Tshepe Campus

(Phuthaditjhaba)

Location

The Campus is situated in the Tseki area of Qwaqwa about 8km from Phuthaditjhaba.

Establishment

In the late 70's Anglo American provided the then Qwaqwa homeland authorities with physical infrastructure (offices, lecture halls, etc.) for the then envisaged Lere la Tshepe polytechnic for the Qwaqwa communities. Due to some technical problems the project never took off the ground.

Growth and Upgrading

Tshiya College of Education used the premises for teacher training (Senior Secondary Teachers' Certificate) in the early 80's. Later the University of the North used the campus for its Qwaqwa-based branch. When the University moved to its own buildings, the site was left unused for about 10 years.

In 1995 the FET Directorate opened a satellite campus of Tshiya College to accommodate learners who could not be enrolled at Bonamelo and Sefikeng. The satellite operated until 1998 when the teacher training programme was phased out and the campus became a fully-fledged Technical College offering Business Studies; N4 - N6.

As a result of the merger of FS Colleges (after the rationalization process), Lere la Tshepe became a campus of the new Maluti FET College on 01 September 2002.

Management has selected the campus for development as a sports and recreation center through the FET recapitalisation programme. The center will be fully operational in 2006. The Campus is still offering Business Studies and has a staff complement of 07 lecturers (including Campus Manager) and 08 support staff members.
